Hoy nos hemos venido a Guanajuato México una ciudad que seduce desde el primer momento en el que recorres sus calles.
Lo primero que me llamó la atención de Guanajuato México fueron los colores vivos y alegres presentes en toda la ciudad y no sólo en las casa de la gente, también en sus grandes edificios como el de la Colegiata de Nuestra señora de Guanajuato. Precisamente al lado de esta colegiata está otro símbolo de la ciudad, su universidad, ya que estamos en una de las ciudades académicas más importantes del país. Un poco más alejado del centro histórico tenemos otro emblema de Guanajuato, la Iglesia de la Valenciana del s XVIII.
Sin duda hay mucho que ver en esta ciudad y para poder admirar toda su grandeza, nos vamos a subir al mirador de Pípila.
Museo Momias
El Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato es una de las principales atracciones del Estado. En sus vitrinas se exhiben más de 100 cuerpos momificados. En su mayoría vecinos de la zona, por lo que es habitual que las momias expuestas reciban la visita de sus hijos y nietos. Recorrer este museo es una experiencia inquietante y perturbadora para un visitante extranjero. Pero hay que recordar que la concepción que se tiene en México de la muerte es muy diferente a la del resto de los países, y son precisamente aspectos como este, lo que convierten a México en un país tan fascinante.
Pero la seña de identidad de Guanajuato no son ni sus momias ni sus grandes edificios. Son sus callejones, famosos por sus leyendas y por el encanto que aportan los colores de los muros de sus casas. Por toda esta belleza y armonía Guanajuato fue declarada en 1988 de Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.

Today we’re in Guanajuato México, a city that seduces you from the very first moments you walk through its streets. The first thing that caught my attention in Guanajuato was the vibrant colours present all around the city, not only in the houses but also in the main buildings, like the Colegiata de Nuestra Señora de Guanajuato. Right next to the Colegiata is the other symbol of the city, the University, as we’re in one of the most important academic cities in the country. A little further away from the city centre there’s another one of Guanajuato’s most impressive sights, the La Valenciana Church from the 18th century.
There’s so much to see in this city, and in order to best admire its beauty, we’re go up to the Pípila viewpoint.
The Guanajuato Mummy Museum is one of the main attractions of the state. It showcases more than 100 mummified bodies on display. They were mostly residents of the area, so it is common for them to be visited by their children and grandchildren. Exploring this museum can be an unsettling experience for a foreign visitor, but we have to remember that the concept of death in Mexico is very different from that of other countries. It’s things issues like this that make Mexico such a fascinating country.
But the hallmark of Guanajuato isn’t the mummies or its largest buildings. It’s the city’s alleys, famous for their legends and the charming colourful houses. Because of all this beauty and harmony, Guanajuato was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
