MAORÍES DE NUEVA ZELANDA
En este episodio Ruben Alonso viaja hasta Rotorua en Nueva Zelanda para conocer a la cultura Maorí. Para poder descubrir esta cultura visita el Tamaki Maori Village, un espacio natural donde se recrea la arquitectura y las tradiciones de la población Maorí como la Haka y el Hongi.
Nueva Zelanda fue uno de los últimos lugares de la Tierra en ser conquistado y colonizado. El país fue uno de los extremos de la gran área de Polinesia, estaba habitada antes de la llegada de los europeos por pueblos maoríes que, según la tradición, se establecieron allí en sucesivas migraciones iniciadas hacia el siglo X y concluidas en el siglo XIV procedentes de la Polinesia oriental (Islas Cook o incluso Hawai). Probablemente los maoríes llegaron entre los años 800 y 1300. Estos pueblos tuvieron que adaptar su economía y su organización social a las nuevas condiciones ambientales y, aislados del resto del mundo, crearon una cultura original.
In this episode Ruben Alonso travels to Rotorua in New Zealand to discover the Maori Culture. To know this culture he visits the Tamaki Maori Village, a natural area where architecture and traditions of the Maori culture – as the Haka and Hongi – are recreated.
Over 1000 years ago, the ancestors of Maori departed their homeland of Hawaikinui, setting out in numbers of massive Waka (canoes) in search of a new land. The story of their migration is a fascinating one in and of itself, as these first seafarers navigated the vast oceans using only sub-tropical wind systems and the stars to guide their path. The journey was long, and the legends and stories borne from this time are still told today.
